2. General Information on Data Processing

We process personal data of our visitors only insofar as this is necessary to provide a functional website and our content.

solhive.energy does not use tracking, advertising cookies or third-party analytics. No marketing cookies are set. No external tracking tool (e.g. Google Analytics) is used.

3. Provision of the Website (Server Logs)

When you access this website, technically necessary connection data is briefly recorded by the web server. This typically includes:

  • IP address of the requesting device (truncated before storage)
  • Date and time of the request
  • Requested URL and HTTP status code
  • User-agent string (browser, operating system)
  • Referrer URL (if transmitted)

Legal basis: Art. 6 (1) lit. f GDPR (legitimate interest in a stable, secure operation of the website). Retention period: server logs are deleted or anonymized after a maximum of 14 days.

4. Contact by Email

If you contact us by email (e.g. via hallo@solhive.energy), your details will be stored for the purpose of processing the inquiry and in case of follow-up questions.

Legal basis: Art. 6 (1) lit. b GDPR (initiation of contractual relationships) or Art. 6 (1) lit. f GDPR (legitimate interest in processing inquiries). This data will be deleted once it is no longer required for processing, at the latest after the expiration of statutory retention periods.

5. Cookies

This website uses no cookies. Neither technically necessary session cookies nor third-party cookies are set.

6. External Links

Our website links to external services (e.g. GitHub, PolyForm-Project). As soon as you click these links, the privacy policy of the respective provider applies. We have no influence over the data processing of these third parties.

7. Hosting

This website is hosted on a server in Germany (Hetzner Online GmbH, Industriestr. 25, 91710 Gunzenhausen). A data processing agreement pursuant to Art. 28 GDPR is in place.

8. Your Rights under the GDPR

You have the right:

  • pursuant to Art. 15 GDPR, to request information about your personal data processed by us.
  • pursuant to Art. 16 GDPR, to immediately request the correction of incorrect data or the completion of your personal data stored by us.
  • pursuant to Art. 17 GDPR, to request the deletion of your personal data stored by us.
  • pursuant to Art. 18 GDPR, to request the restriction of the processing of your personal data.
  • pursuant to Art. 20 GDPR, to receive your personal data in a structured, common and machine-readable format (data portability).
  • pursuant to Art. 21 GDPR, to object to the processing, where the processing is based on Art. 6 (1) lit. e or f GDPR.
  • pursuant to Art. 77 GDPR, to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. As a rule, this is the state data protection authority of the federal state of your residence.

To exercise your rights, an informal message to hallo@solhive.energy is sufficient.

9. Beta Programme (beta.solhive.energy)

Using the application form at beta.solhive.energy you can apply to take part in the closed testing phase (beta) of Solhive. Note that this form is currently available in German only. Participation is voluntary; without applying you can still use the website and the software without restriction under the respective licence.

Data processed. Mandatory fields are your name, your email address and a short free-text description of your system and your motivation. The following details about your system are optional: brand and model of your inverter, battery storage, wallbox, heat pump, system output (kWp), number of MPP trackers, use of Home Assistant, whether Linux/Docker is available, Modbus experience, a self-assessment of your technical experience and whether you are willing to report bugs. These details are used solely to select suitable test configurations.

We additionally store the time of your application, the time of your consent and your IP address. The IP address serves to prevent automated bulk and spam submissions (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR, legitimate interest in operating the form free of abuse).

Legal basis. The application data is processed on the basis of your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR), which you give explicitly when submitting the form. You may withdraw this consent at any time with effect for the future — an informal message to hallo@solhive.energy is sufficient. The lawfulness of processing carried out until the withdrawal remains unaffected.

Retention period. Rejected applications are deleted automatically and completely 30 days after the decision. Applications that have not been decided on are deleted 120 days after receipt. Accepted applications are retained for the duration of your participation, as they are linked to the access key issued to you; they are deleted at the end of the beta programme or upon your withdrawal.

Recipients. The application data is processed on the server named in Section 7 and is not used for advertising purposes. Within the programme, data is transmitted to the following parties:

  • Microsoft Ireland Operations Limited, One Microsoft Place, South County Business Park, Leopardstown, Dublin 18, D18 P521, Ireland – sending our emails to you (Microsoft 365). A data processing agreement pursuant to Art. 28 GDPR is in place.
  • Brevo GmbH, Köpenicker Str. 126, 10179 Berlin, Germany – sending the system and notification emails of our community forum and our feedback board. A data processing agreement pursuant to Art. 28 GDPR is in place.
  • If your application is accepted, your email address is transmitted to our community forum (community.solhive.energy) in order to issue you a personal invitation. The forum and the feedback board run on our own infrastructure in Germany; an account is only created once you accept the invitation.

Third-country transfers (Microsoft). Our contracting party for sending email is Microsoft Ireland Operations Limited, a company established within the EEA; the data is stored and processed within the EU and EFTA under the EU Data Boundary. Access from third countries — in particular the USA — cannot be entirely ruled out in support and maintenance cases. For those cases, the EU Standard Contractual Clauses pursuant to Art. 46(2)(c) GDPR form part of the data processing agreement; in addition, Microsoft Corporation is certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework.

Third-country transfers (Brevo). According to Brevo's list of sub-processors, the servers are located in France, Germany and Belgium; the email data therefore remains within the EU. For customer support and maintenance, as well as for supporting services (content delivery network, ticketing system), companies in India, the USA and Canada are also involved. These transfers are safeguarded by the EU Standard Contractual Clauses pursuant to Art. 46(2)(c) GDPR together with supplementary measures; for Canada an adequacy decision applies, and the US companies are additionally certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework.

No automated decision-making. We decide manually on admission to the beta programme; no profiling within the meaning of Art. 22 GDPR takes place.

Community forum and feedback board. If you accept the invitation, you create your own account there (username, email address, password). Your posts are visible to other participants and are stored on our servers until you request their deletion. The notices published on those services apply in addition; your rights under Section 8 remain unaffected.

10. Validity of this Privacy Policy

This privacy policy is valid as of August 2026. It will be updated as soon as relevant legal or technical conditions change.
